La Ferme des Aulnes

Just 12 minutes from the beaches and 1 minute from a prestigious golf course this lovely site is set around a typical Picardy farmhouse, offering a peaceful atmosphere. The indoor heated pool (29°) and cosy piano bar, open from end March until beginning November, extend a comfortable welcome in all seasons. A very convenient site for your ferry, being only about an hour from Calais.

Picardy

Take the trouble to explore, and you’ll find Picardy to be one of the most rewarding provinces in France. Picardie’s coastline is the least urbanised in all France with miles upon miles of beautiful sandy beaches and dunes. Great for windsurfing, land yachting, sailing, swimming and building castles. But there are lots of real castles too, often tucked away in the vast expanses of oak and beech forests (largest in all Europe). If it’s a walking break you’re after or even a cycling break, the choice is yours – choose between coastline and forests, vineyards (yes, aoc vineyards of Champagne do stretch into southern Picardy) and wide open countryside

Chemin de fer de la Baie de Somme

A pleasant antique steam train that follows a horseshoe route of about an hour around the Baie de la Somme, between Le Crotoy, St Valery-sur-Somme and Cayeux-sur-Mer.  This is a fantastic route if you enjoy wildlife.

Thiepval Memorial

Opened on 31 July 1932 by the Prince of Wales, the Thiepval memorial was and remains the largest British war memorial in the world.  The memorial contains the names of 73,357 British and South African men who have no known grave and who fell on the Somme between July 1916 and 20 March 1918. Alongside the memorial is a recently opened (2004) visitor centre explaining in greater detail the Battle of the Somme in which 1.3 million died.
